Hobnail Vessels from eternity and back again.

I make glass objects for a living, to support mine and my families earthbound life that is. There’s another thing going on here though, it’s more than one thing happening at once. We’re learning, and we are showing the work. We don’t speak of it, we feel and listen, we move with it, we use it to see and to create. It proves itself to us and the vision grows.

New vessels just added to the shop!

Elemental Life in Frame

So it’s true that I’m a little crazy, but in a perfectly friendly, safe and non threatening way. I wake up, drink caffeine, do a little of this self-promotion/self-expression, think about how crazy life, the world, the universe, the reality is etc etc. Then, instead of curling up and quivering in a fetal position from the overwhelming nature of it all, I get to work and I use that overwhelm and anxiety etc. to take control of the glass and prove to myself that it’s all real and that when I look and listen, I can make the connections between the seemingly disparate things in a way that feels like I’m doing my part to keep it all together, actually show the work, and ideally support my family all at once.

Elemental Life In Frame” now available in the shop!

“Logos” Vessel

Art is a tool that we use for a mashup of reasons. To play and learn, to watch a thing take shape, to tell stories and express ideas. There is a theme to much of my work that is seemingly ambiguous. These are attempts to express the “absolute”. They are generally unplanned works that are the result of true inspired and passionate flow. These pieces take shape almost on their own.

I make a template (the vessel) and the rest presents itself as I go. The symmetry and patterns are self-guiding. In all my hopes and dreams the effect of viewing them should be a restorative one. Like remembering something very important, but impossible to put into words…

Now available in the shop.

Transfiguration Torus

Yeah, life is something. I heard the other day that the meaning of life is the question itself. That we’re here to ask, not to know. If you think about how important patterns and pattern recognition is to life itself, then it starts a pattern of it’s own. We make an observation of the first motion, and move with that into a new motion. We put a thought into an action, and ideas and patterns start to become things.

I’m of the mind that the great mind above, or beyond, or within all, is just filled with connections that have yet to be made, and that everything including us is a part of the process that makes them. I have repeated this idea in words so many times. It feels really good to do it in a way that is beyond the bounds of language but also quite literal?

Anyway, what you’re looking st is an elaborate and symmetrical glass Bead with a custom stand. I’d like to sell it to support life and continue forward to the next connection. I would also like for it to send these ripples of a well examined life beyond my reach and scope.  Now available in the shop.

“Dawn to Dusk” New set and a few words to grow on.

These colors. They remind us of beginnings and endings I think.  New Dawns and days that end well.  Couple that with some earth tones and it’s the dream we live here on earth.

~We begin to become something in the dark, then we reach out from the center to define our space. The process moves this way, one center defined, one sphere. From there, it looks to create another in it’s likeness.  As the body grows, it becomes more inhabitable, more familiar. The process continues until the being is born from there to here. The self begins to take notice of this increasing physicality, of hunger and a vulnerability that didn’t previously exist. It breathes, it sees and feels. It begins to discover cause and effect. It forgets, it remembers and forgets and remembers again.

To be the remembering and forgetting is one thing, to observe it is another.  We do both, but not often at the same time. We often believe that forgotten things go away somehow, but they most certainly do not, even if you can’t remember them, all that ever was, still is. Like space dust under the influence of all that surrounds it, part of the whole, yet still differentiated. The dust will find attraction to particles that agree and they will congregate, coalesce and eventually form a body, with a center, and the process will be there too.

The process is infinitely large and magnificently small. So where you look for it, is where you’ll find it. You just have to trust yourself long enough, and let it open. It spooks when you reach or chase it. If you want butterflies and hummingbirds to land on your shoulder, then make like a flower, be love, be life, be beauty and it will seek YOU out.  Not because you’re special or godly or magical.  It’s because that’s just how it works. Distilled from dogma, the way just is simply, “the way.”

“Love” is a word.  It’s the one we have. What it means is everything. Love is greater than anything. Gratitude is joy.  You can give your attention to what needs it and what calls for it. You can also turn your back on what is looking to take it from you or frighten you away from it.  We all have a mountain we’re looking to climb. All that matters is whether or not you’re going towards it or away from it.  We all know the view is reason enough.

Carry on and be well kind travelers, I look forward to seeing you on the path.

The lessons on the ground…

Spent the day doing some stuff around the yard with Atom yesterday while Shani made beads in the shop. He’ll be six years old soon. The hunger for knowledge and experience is just on fire at this age.

“What is that? Why are we doing this? Can I help?” These are the questions all day from him.

You can’t save the world, but the world won’t save you either. You CAN learn how to live, then you CAN teach it. Remember how it was to be 6 years old or just observe some children… That’s not who you were, it’s who you are underneath the nonsense.

Some might say that if you don’t know how to get your hands dirty, then you may be out of luck when the “dirty hands” are too tired or broken or just busy helping themselves for once.

I’ve got dirt under my fingernails and my hands feel like they do things. We gathered wood to make dinner with stuff we grew last night. If a tree fell on me today, it’d just be the way. Just saying that there’s not much to gain by delegating our responsibility until we no longer have any of our own. That’s a miserable situation for everyone because it only takes a couple of generations before you don’t know how to do anything for yourself anymore. That equals all kinds of undesirable situations…

The status quo says doing it yourself is slow. The status quo says doing it yourself is for people who can’t afford to pay someone else to do it. Not that there is anything wrong with delegating responsibility, it’s an important social tool just a consideration that real experience is priceless.

Some photos with captions below…

Started out the day yesterday by having Atom harvest one of the few carrots that we have growing. It was fresh and delicious… Atom said “MMMM”,loud, at least four times while eating one 4inch long quarter of the thing. It was a damn good carrot. Shani and I thought so too.

Superfuzz! Crazy-pillar we saw crawling around. We wanted to pet it but I recall something about that being a bad idea somehow, not sure, need to identify.

…let it wander into a jar and moved it to a safer setting…

So there’s this really cool thing called a “rocket stove” that I’ve been messing with. It’s a ridiculously simple thing that can be made in an infinite number of ways. Basically it uses convection/drafting to get a lot of clean consistent heat out of a really small and manageable amount of fuel. If you follow a couple key rules in design it will work great no matter what you use. Atom and I moved and reconfigured this one in a better spot yesterday. Rocket stove Wiki

All you have to do is get a small fire going in the chamber and feed it sticks. The fire is fully contained so there’s no sparks or open flame except what’s licking the bottom of the pan/pot.

So simple, but I’ll tell you something. If I’m going to sear a piece sf meat or fish or bacon I go outside now. Not so much because of the mess and smoke, but because of the heat this thing puts out, and because gathering twigs to cook dinner with a rocket stove is awesome.

We had some old candle making stuff so we made some candles to test fire the new arrangement.

I put a lot of beef (very local grass fed thanks) on mine so the presentation is lacking but I cooked some Vietnamese beef noodle salad for dinner and it won.. (Beef browned nicely on that rocket stove, ha.) I subbed ground beef for sliced but this recipe is a keeper. << That site will nag at you a bit but it’s worth it…
Got Atom to take a photo of Shani and I with my phone. Not bad dude, nice perspective…  Hi all!!

I’m sorry I broke the blog last night.

That thing about breaking a few eggs to make an omelette you know. I’m learning over here. New stuff. No big stacks of cash to throw at it, just a little time and it gets better.

Sometimes you have to find out what not to do the hard way, but when you do it that way, you have experience based understanding. This is something you can teach someone else to do now if you had to…

Currently will get you here.

I had redirected the our main url to our big cartel store here>

I am not a professional www.webinator so I did it in a weird way that I had to undo, and am now working on an actual more proper configuration…blah blah 1011001011010111010001010…

Thanks for bearing with me.  All is well here, I hope the same goes for you there.
