New beads added to the shop!

Click the photo to teleport now. thanks all.

Working on a full overhaul of operations and it is good. Starting with these new additions to our shop. There is a whole lot of awesome in the works but it’s going to take some real time and effort on this side of things. More than ever, but it’s always worth it.

I’m in the workshop right this moment typing this on my phone. I’m going to offer things on this blog. Written accoutrements that I’d like to share. Things that I don’t care to toss into the turbulent book of faces like so many lost messages in a bottle.

Here I can share and know where it is, how to find it and show you. I have much to learn about making this work but I have to start and make mistakes or it will never become.

I write a lot, I share a lot because it’s something I’m compelled to do. The thing is that I can’t afford to do it as much as I would like, it takes a lot of time away from doing the work that pays my bills. (I am a Lampworker).

The idea is to try and concentrate my efforts here (again). More room to write, and it’s linked to our shop so maybe you like it and want to grab a bead to carry it with you and invest in more.

Here’s a quick poem for you to be on your way.

The Times

Every house holds three clocks.

They keep each other set with the tick and the tock.

One runs forward, one turns back, and the other is stopped.

The man looks around to find it and feels queasy at the proposition, that a timely choice is important to this mission.

Then he reaches up and takes all three. He remembered what it means to be.

I’m gonna go make glass objects now. but if the words move you more, or just enough to throw money at, or you just have so much you don’t know what to do with it, that donate button will take it and I’ll invest it well.  Thank you. Bless our place and our journey.

Blown borosilicate glass spinning top x pendant by Beau Barrett
Blown borosilicate glass spinning top x pendant by Beau Barrett.

Clear glass is the glass that says “glass”.  It shows everything while bending it’s light.  I’ll talk it up all day because it’s the solvent of color. Like water but not at all. Borosilicate is an amorphous solid (non-crystalline). Created from around 80% silica and a mix of a few other ingredients to give the appropriate attributes.  The silica can be melted mostly on it’s own to make fused quartz for super high-temp applications.

All real glass starts with a basis of silica.

To the sky, from the earth.

Like a volcano.

We move it with fire.

There’s other glass-like materials, like clear acrylic and lucite that can be somewhat attractive. But glass actually occurs in nature.  Ever hear of Tektite?

Tektites (from Greek τηκτός “tēktos”, molten) are gravel-size bodies that are composed of black, green, brown or gray, natural glass that are feormed from terrestrial debris ejected during extraterrestrial impacts.

Whereas Lucite…

Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) is a transparent thermoplastic often used as a lightweight or shatter-resistant alternative to glass.

Although it is not technically a type of glass, the substance has sometimes historically been called acrylic glass. Chemically, it is the synthetic polymer of methyl methacrylate. The material was developed in 1928 in several different laboratories by many chemists such as William Chalmers, Otto Röhm and Walter Bauer and was first brought to market in 1933 by the Rohm and Haas Company, under the trademark Plexiglas.[4] It has since been sold under many different names, including Acrylite, Lucite, and Perspex.

Not trying to say glass is superior, just that I like the way it feels in my hands. Kind of like a rock.

Nothing is easy. Nothing is simple. There’s always more than you ever thought you knew.

New Pendant x Top Auction!

If 1 connection is 1 unit of creation…  Then it could be said that each unit, lends an exponential increase of potential futures.

Being that our experiences and previously made connections exist on a very non-linear plane.  Like a computer network, you can directly access past experiences, far behind the most recent ones to add new connections.

For a maker, this can mean a really awesome new thing arises by connecting concepts, techniques or ideas from different times, planes of existence and walks of life.

Any object is a demonstration of the thing or force that makes things, that make things to make more things. This whole place is clearly alive, and our role is to join in and live.
