Solar Man

Truth be told, I occasionally make components that get set aside because I’m not sure what I’m doing with them. I have some creative compulsions that take over, mid day, then I decide I better get back to bread and butter and think it all over.  In this case, the human figure, foot, bowl and the open part of the stem were all “accumulated” over time. Then one day I look around and see that I almost have something. The figure happens to eye up with the stem well, I add the outer arcs and rays to it (the stem), add some gold and silver fuming, assemble and here we are.

I’ll tell you again that I know exactly “what” I’m doing, but I figure out how as I go,because “the best laid plans of mice and men oft go astray” you know?
I just aim for the light and it all comes together. That’s faith.
We watch and listen and move, guided by light. I couldn’t doubt it again if I tried. I’ve received enough confirmation to fill all the cups ever made, and I aim to share it above all else. Dogma free.
I thank you for the very important part you play in fueling this transformative fire that burns for you as much as any.
It’s there when you look for it, it’s there when you don’t.
It won’t wait to shine. It’s just what light does. What it does to a person when they answer it, stand naked in it ??
It changes them from an animal into a Human Being.
It’s the hardest thing for a person to do. Also the most worthwhile.
Shine Brighter every moment, ask all the questions and see for yourself what this place is really about.

I made a pair of lamp-pulls for someone recently.  Pairs don't always happen the first time and tend to leave behind a nice looking individual or two.

Translucent peach glass (colored with gold, this color has a really nice unique glow to it.) a black/amber purple/black incalmo section and black rims. The "bottom" rim is exaggerated to form a tapered skirt. This was to hide the end of the ball chain but will also be a nice portal for your bead work to spring forth from...

52mm x 19mm diameter.   4mm hole size.

Thanks all!

Blown boro bead auction!

I’m thankfully continuing to learn here… Regarding the auctions, I’ve discovered that I’m not supposed to put multiple auctions in a post.  If you previously had trouble bidding that is almost certainly why.  I was trying to make it easier to navigate but I’ll just leave it be for now.

You can always just click the rss link on the auction widget to make sure you’re not missing anything…

I need to hop back on the torch this morning so just this auction for now but I’ll keep you posted 😉 Thanks all!

Blown borosilicate glass spinning top x pendant by Beau Barrett
Blown borosilicate glass spinning top x pendant by Beau Barrett.

Clear glass is the glass that says “glass”.  It shows everything while bending it’s light.  I’ll talk it up all day because it’s the solvent of color. Like water but not at all. Borosilicate is an amorphous solid (non-crystalline). Created from around 80% silica and a mix of a few other ingredients to give the appropriate attributes.  The silica can be melted mostly on it’s own to make fused quartz for super high-temp applications.

All real glass starts with a basis of silica.

To the sky, from the earth.

Like a volcano.

We move it with fire.

There’s other glass-like materials, like clear acrylic and lucite that can be somewhat attractive. But glass actually occurs in nature.  Ever hear of Tektite?

Tektites (from Greek τηκτός “tēktos”, molten) are gravel-size bodies that are composed of black, green, brown or gray, natural glass that are feormed from terrestrial debris ejected during extraterrestrial impacts.

Whereas Lucite…

Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) is a transparent thermoplastic often used as a lightweight or shatter-resistant alternative to glass.

Although it is not technically a type of glass, the substance has sometimes historically been called acrylic glass. Chemically, it is the synthetic polymer of methyl methacrylate. The material was developed in 1928 in several different laboratories by many chemists such as William Chalmers, Otto Röhm and Walter Bauer and was first brought to market in 1933 by the Rohm and Haas Company, under the trademark Plexiglas.[4] It has since been sold under many different names, including Acrylite, Lucite, and Perspex.

Not trying to say glass is superior, just that I like the way it feels in my hands. Kind of like a rock.

Nothing is easy. Nothing is simple. There’s always more than you ever thought you knew.
